In my company, the pay scales for the top grades of all types of engineers working in the nuclear department are somewhat higher, maybe 5 to 10% than for top engineers working in the other sectors of the company. That is because the pay scales are compared nationally, instead of locally. This is also happens only in the grades needing more experience, starting engineers generally start out roughly the same. The nuclear industry hires many more MEs and EEs than NEs.
