You’re thinking of communism. Socialism still has varied pay rates, but much much higher taxation than we pay here.

No, your referring to an extreme form of Communism.
Socialist governments have free market economies/same wage differences but higher taxation for public services such as healthcare, education.

Socialist refers to the services that are provided and controlled by the central government. There is still a sort of free enterprise and market system but since the basic needs of the people are dictated by the government, taxation has to be extreme in order to pay for it.
BTW, the government elite do have a much better level of "services" provided than the rest of the population they subjugate…I mean govern.

No. The elites always are multi-millionaires and everyone else is poor.
Look at the socialist nations in Central America. Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro live like kings while their people starve in the streets.
