Apparently it has enough money to clear 3rd world debt a few times over. Why are they hording all this money if this is the case?
Just done some research and apparently their wealth is in the tens of billions ($).
As for people saying why dont I give to charity, I do, and so does a lot of people.

ROTFL - it does - that's rich - pun intended.
do you not realize they are the largest charitable organization. how about everyone get their nose in their own pockets and worry about what THEY are doing to help stop hunger.

If the spent it, they wouldn't have it anymore.
Without wealth, it would be just another personality cult.
The Church isn't saving souls, it's investing in real estate.

Who knows. Maybe the pope mobile is really expensive to maintain. Plus I’ve heard those pointy hats he wears cost a boatload.

Because the pope needs it to buy his red Prada shoes

What money? If you did some research you would discover that the Catholic Religion is the biggest charity in the World and the paintings belong to other people who donated it to the Church
Edit: the Pope does not wear Pradas

Guess you have to ask the source of this information!!!

I don’t know. History also proved that the power of the Pope was abused. Remember the councils anyone? The Pope’s power was getting stronger and stronger because of that German King. And the Pope positioned himself as a feudal lord and an independent one at that! And the crusades! Where do you think they got the lands? the Pope, ahem, the church had lots of lands. And because the people were smart enough they gave the Pope his only tract of land. The Vatican Hill (not so sure… We just had the quiz yesterday :). And remember they are HUMANS. They behave and THINK like one
I also wondered why priests in the Philippines have nice and expensive stuff when they made the VOW OF POVERTY” LOL. The irony of it. Keep up with the research, and keep us updated
BTW what I think of the church is that they are a political entity, they hinder growth(they stopped the reproduction health bill in the Philippines. It’s aim was supposed to be that Filipinos would have the knowledge when and not to have sex. And how to properly use condoms. They even ban the use of Condoms. They apparently have more political power than I thought. And homo’s should also be treated fairly by Christians since their beliefs says that their religion is for ALL).

What was the source of your information, fundies r us?, Jack chick.com?. I am so happy you give to charity, however get your facts right the Catholic Church has the BIGGEST CONTRIBUTION to Charity's helping the poor & sick etc. In fact it is the BIGGEST Charity and CONTROBITUR in the World!.

Well, in your research, you need to be clear how wealth is defined.
Two facts on public record, one I’ll give you for free: In 1978, the year of the three popes, the Vatican had to go into debt to Italian bankers to pay for the second papal funeral and the second conclave.
Go to any Catholic Parish, and you will see the amount of money they receive in donations per week/month and year. Take that figure and extrapolate how modest salaries are paid, schools are operated, utilities are covered, floors are cleaned, etc. Then look around the Parish itself and see with your own eyes things like: chipped painting, cracked floors, lights burnt out.
If the Church is so packed full of billions of dollars, why was is it that a Japanese company owns the copyright to the Sistine Chapel Restoration? The Vatican didn’t have enough money, so a Japanese company did it in exchange for the copyright privileges.
The Vatican itself has a yearly budget that is equivalent to the Archdiocese of Chicago, and frequently runs on a deficit. Look it up.
The Vatican is fabulously wealthy in terms of it’s assets, but not actual cash holdings. Art, property, Sacred Vessels (often made of gold or precious metal) the Church has come to own over an accumulated 2000+ year history are certainly worth an awful lot of money, but they are not money in and of themselves. These assets are public wealth. They are open for all to visit and see, much like a public museum.
The word “church” means “called out assembly.” The Catholic Church is Catholic people, and the highest concentration of Catholics are in the poorest parts of the world: Central and South America, Africa, and the Philippines.
And when you’re done with your research, go back to The Bible. Read the story of Christ chasing the money changers out of the temple.

The Catholic Church is not a company. It is THE Universal Church.
<>
No it doesn’t. The annial budget for the Vatican is comparable to the annual budget of the city of Chicago. Surely Chicago doesn’t have the money to wipe out world debt a few times over. So, logically, neither does the Vatican.
<>
The Catholic Church is not hording money.
<>
No, you didn’t do any research. All you did was find a website that provides you with affirmation of a personal belief, rather than find a website that provides the facts.
<>
Yes, a lot of people do, including Catholics. That’s why the Catholic Church has the money it has.
