I have been looking for a website that pays you to take surveys. Does anyone know a good, legit, survey site?

If you've tried this or your friends or family and it did work, please tell me. Actually I'm looking for a home-based work that doesn't require any registration/ membership fee. According to my information the owner of the website will earn money from advertisment (i m not talking about E-Commerce website) but there is no any advertismenty on the gmail as well as orkut.com
therefore it is a very big question in my mind that how the owner of these type of websites will earn money
